Red Seas Fire
We were asked what the reason was behind the naming of the track “Skye” from our record. Since it’s the one track that stands out on the record with regard to it’s name not being a random word that we felt suited the music we figured we would enlighten any of you who have wondered the same.
In the summer of 2011 we were getting ready to release the record, doing the final bits and pieces of prep and all of that, and Skye was the only track that didn’t have a name. Seriously it had been called “The Demo” since it was first written in 2007, and no one was having any luck coming up with anything.
At this time one of Pete’s dogs was found to have an inoperable cancerous tumor in her neck, wrapped around too many important things to do anything about, and so she was given a few weeks left to live.
This dog, a border collie, was a pretty serious rescue case, when Pete’s family got her she had been horribly mistreated, wouldn’t go near a grown male and would growl and attack anyone who tried to touch her and pet her. She had a lot of scars that you could feel if she was in a good enough mood to let you touch her, and had even had her tail removed. However by the time Pete’s family got this news she had become another beloved member of the family, she would happily let you pet her, and in fact would relish the opportunity to cuddle up against one of the family and show a level of love and adoration that they never thought they would see.
When Pete found out about this he asked the guys if it would be ok to name the track after her, as it was the best way he could think of to pay tribute to her. The guys of course agreed that Skye was a good name, and that was that.
Skye passed peacefully away roughly a month after the record was released. This picture is from the last time Pete, now living in a different part of the UK than his family, saw her, and it definitely sums up exactly how she should be remembered.
